Transition Year

Transition Year

Transition Year has been run successfully in Glenart College since 2018, it is a year that really focuses on the development of the student at a more personal level. By participating in TY students will develop skills that will help with a smooth transition to self-directed learning that is required at Senior Cycle.

The Transition Year programme offers each student a broad holistic curriculum enabling students to develop their own particular gifts, reach their full potential and to develop a love of learning. Every opportunity is given to enable students to develop powers of critical reflection thereby building independence of mind, increasing social awareness and social competences and nurturing maturation. It is hoped that by the end of Transition Year the programme will have contributed to the social development of these young teenagers so that they grow up to be autonomous, participative and responsible members of society.

Students will gain an extra years maturity which will help them cope with the increased level of learning that is necessary for Senior Cycle. They will learn transferable skills that will be of huge benefit to them at third level and in working life such as analytical skills, problem solving skills and teamwork skills. They will also benefit from learning about adult working life. This will be achieved through participation in a preparation for work module that will include work experience and job seeking skills. They will also have the chance to investigate the options that will be available to them when they leave school.

There are 4 layers to TY:
