Junior Cycle

Junior Cycle

In Glenart College, we offer our students a wide range of subjects from both our optional long courses, and our optional short courses. For the duration of Junior Cycle, 1st - 3rd year, all students will select three optional subjects, and one short course. We ensure that all students are provided with a learning environment that is engaging, interactive, inclusive and collaborative.

Junior Cycle Reform is nearing completion, meaning that as part of the new Junior Cycle course, subjects incorporate continuous assessment. As part of this, all students will have classroom based assessments in 2nd & 3rd year, with an assessment task in 3rd year that makes up 10% of the overall Junior Cycle mark. Students will also receive a Junior Cycle Certificate of Achievement that will outline their achievements over the three years.

Students will also be able to choose from a range of long and short courses. The college is one of only 50 schools nationwide offering Coding as a Junior Cycle subject. In helping students select their subjects, all first years will participate in a 5 week “Taster Programme” for all optional subjects. This allows students the chance to experience each of the subjects and what they have to offer!
